Essential Housing for Healthy Goats

Market meat goats thrive in safe and clean environments. A poor living space can lead to sickness or injury. If you have an outdoor pen, always provide a sheltered area where your goats can escape bad weather. Ensure the pen has enough space for your goats to move freely, which is crucial for their health and development.

Optimal Shelter and Protection

For outdoor pens, a good-sized shelter with some walls, potentially three is best, is essential to protect your goats from harsh weather. If possible, housing your goats in a barn is highly recommended. Barns make daily care easier and help maintain their health by providing a consistently controlled environment.

Space Requirements for Active Goats

A pen of at least 6 feet by 6 feet is necessary to house all the essentials for a goat's survival. However, a larger space is always better to allow for movement throughout the day, which helps keep them healthy. My personal pen, for example, is 10 feet by 12 feet and includes a stand for the goats to climb on and stay active.
